Print - Club Competition Rules
The following competition rules were revised in August 2024:
-
The committee may amend the rules governing competitions and awards, taking into account developments in photography and the current state of the Society. Changes must be communicated to the members as soon as possible before the start of a competition season and will remain in effect for the entire season.
-
To maintain anonymity, Prints must bear the entrant's competition number and a title for the convenience of the Competition Secretaries; names must not be put onto the entries.
Judges will only be given the titles of the images submitted.
The current maximum number of Prints per competition is:
4No. Colour
4No. Monochrome
4No. Set Subject - content as detailed in the syllabus.
Each print must have:
Image Title (Max 25 letters including spaces)
Competition number* of the photographer. *Issued upon joining the club.
Category in which it is entered. [Colour/Mono/Set Subject]
Eg. "The World is Ablase - 64 - Colour.jpg"
-
Competition entry hand-in dates are set by the Syllabus and Competition Secretaries.
These dates MUST be adhered to.
Entries not received by the given date will not be entered into that competition.
-
All entries will be submitted to the Judge or Judges appointed by the Competition Secretaries at least 2 weeks before the competition date.
-
Trade Processed Prints, and prints created by any other medium will be allowed for entry;
The mounting of prints must be the work of the entrant.
-
Prohibitions:
a) The use of Ai in computer software to “generate an image” is prohibited; however, the use of Ai such as in “Content Aware fill/delete” within programs such as Photoshop or Lightroom, is permitted.
In the event of any doubt, the author will be asked to supply a copy of the original image, complete with Metadata.
b) All images must be the work of the author; importing content into an image which is not the work of the author is prohibited (e.g. adding a sky or an object, such as a figure from an external source).
-
Resubmission of images:
No work may be submitted to more than 1 monthly or 1 annual competition; however, your preferred work that has been entered into the monthly competitions can be used in the annual competition of that season.
Work entered into any medium (e.g. as a PDI) can not be entered into any other format (e.g. A PRINT). Work entered into a Set Subject competition MUST NOT have been entered into any other previous competition. Thus, work can only be submitted in one season and one format.
-
Mounted Prints
Surface mounted
Photographs may be mounted directly onto a mounting board using either a spray mount or a suitable double-sided adhesive.
Window mounted
Window-mounted prints require a thin backing card firmly fixed to the rear of the mounting board using adhesive tape** along all edges to sandwich and protect the photograph when handled or stored.
** Archival adhesive tape is recommended and available for a small fee; please ask the print competition secretary.
-
Labelling Prints for in-house competitions:
A label should be fixed to the top left-hand corner on the reverse of the entry (either on mounting or backing board) showing:
The Title
Your Competition Number
The Category for which it is entered. [Colour/Mono/Set Subject]
Examples:
“Three Sunflowers - 70 - Monochrome "
"Rainbows - 34 - Colour "
"Midnight at the Oasis - 88 - After Dark, Set Subject"
You may identify your work with your name only when requested.
External bodies like the NCPF have different requirements for labelling; which include your name and attaching labels to the bottom right-hand corner of the reverse.

Retention of prints
The Print Competition Secretary may request that your work be retained for possible entry into interclub or regional/National competitions.

These amendments were agreed by the Committee on the 12th August 2024.
