Photography is Better Together

Why Join South Shields Photographic Society?

Our aim is to ensure members get the most out of their hobby and are inspired and supported in their endeavours. Wherever you are on your photographic journey, if you want to improve your photography, we can help you.

Our Tuesday night activities include talks by external speakers, members' presentations, with frequent digital and print competitions. Our meetings are lively, interactive, and friendly, creating an atmosphere where we can learn from one another and from the highly accomplished judges and speakers who attend.

See This Season's Programme  for all our upcoming activities.

We are eager to expand our membership, particularly encouraging younger individuals, and we believe that diversity will make our club stronger and more engaging for all members.

Why not come along one evening? There’s no obligation to join, and you’ll find us very welcoming. We meet at 7.30 pm on Tuesday evenings at St. Bede's RC Church, 10 West Road, South Shields. The season starts in September and runs till the following May.

We cater for all levels of photographic experience and interests in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere with competitions, talks and chat.

"I have been taking photos since I was a kid, but I joined the club in 2015. My primary aim was to find out why some photos are highly praised and others, apparently similar, are not. I don't know if anyone can say for sure, but I now have a much better idea of what is considered a "good" or winning image after taking part in the club competitions.

While I aim for great shots "in-camera," I am frequently manipulating or compositing my images to give them more impact or just make them more interesting."
