Photography is Better Together

Why Join South Shields Photographic Society?

Our aim is to ensure members get the most out of their hobby and are inspired and supported in their endeavours. Wherever you are on your photographic journey, if you want to improve your photography, we can help you.

Our Tuesday night activities include talks by external speakers, members' presentations, with frequent digital and print competitions. Our meetings are lively, interactive, and friendly, creating an atmosphere where we can learn from one another and from the highly accomplished judges and speakers who attend.

See This Season's Programme  for all our upcoming activities.

We are eager to expand our membership, particularly encouraging younger individuals, and we believe that diversity will make our club stronger and more engaging for all members.

Why not come along one evening? There’s no obligation to join, and you’ll find us very welcoming. We meet at 7.30 pm on Tuesday evenings at St. Bede's RC Church, 10 West Road, South Shields. The season starts in September and runs till the following May.

We cater for all levels of photographic experience and interests in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere with competitions, talks and chat.

I have always enjoyed taking photos, but developed a real passion for photography when I was given my first Pentax film camera for my 21 st birthday.

On moving to the South Tyneside area in 2005, I decided it was about time that I joined a camera club … not knowing what I was expecting to gain from doing so. Home life got in the way, but I eventually joined in 2010, and have never regretted it.

Being a member of the South Shields Photographic Society has been a joy. I have gained inspiration from the other members and have enjoyed the meetings, trips out with other members, and the challenge of competing in the monthly competitions.

I was the club’s Webmaster for several years, maintaining the website through the Covid period, and enjoyed being a member of the committee.
