The Digital Group Trip to Harworth May 16th 2010

The trip was a great success with a total of 44 members friends and family joining us, it took two and a half hours to get to Haworth. We arrived at Haworth at 10 30 am and the place was already packed with visitors from as far a field as Japan, there were trips from Wales and the midlands, the weather was great and turned quite warm during the day. It was the military weekend with re-enactment groups covering the American, German and Italian military personnel. There were some of our members who had never been to Harworth but they really enjoyed the experience so much so they are planning to return in June for a similar event.

The steam trains were running a regular service carrying refugee children all dressed in period costume, those visitors not dressed so seemed to be in the minority. Some brought packed lunches others found an eating place for lunch like fish & chips, then went back up to the main function area to get more pictures, then we all met back at the railway station to get the coach at 3-45 pm, after another 2&1/2 hour journey we arrived back in Shields all very tired and weary.

It was another Digital Group function that I was proud to be a part of. The Digital Group will continue to have coach trips which are funded entirely by the members and their respective friends and family’s and I can only thank them all for their continued support of a great group.

2011 CALENDAR

In view of the success of this year’s calendar it has been agreed that we should produce a calendar for 2011. The object of producing a Society Calendar is threefold, to Showcase the Society’s work, to raise funds for the society and to support a worthy local charity. The subject has been agreed as local scenes with parameters being between the Tweed and the Tees. Selection of the images to be used in the calendar will take the same format as this year i.e.  by way of a competition judged by the society members. Each member of the society may submit one image into the competition.

The photographs must be in landscape format and sized to a maximum of 7inches by 4inches

Each member should prepare two copies of their entry, 1 at up to the maximum size and saved at 300dpi high resolution, 2 a PDI copy sized as per normal competition requirements i.e. 72dpi. 1000 pixels wide (ensuring the height does not exceed 750 pixels) and a 4 pixel white border. Both images should bear a title, the members’ name and competition number.

They should be saved to a CD which should be endorsed with the image title and members name. All entries should be handed to Colin Dudley / Stewart White / Derek Lunn no later than Tuesday 14th September 2010. Selection of the photographs for use in the calendar will take place on Tuesday 12 October 2010 (coincides with the One Image Competition). Selection will be made by all members present on 12th October in the format used by the digital group i.e. the entries will be allocated a random number, viewed and voted upon by the members.

The 12 highest scoring images will form the basis of the calendar. In the event of there being a tiebreak situation, then resolution will be by way random selection – i.e. “drawn from the hat”. This year the production of the calendar was at short notice in response from an appeal from the RNLI and resulted in 17 entries from members. This year, I appeal to ALL members experienced and inexperienced Please enter this competition. Even if you do not enter the society competitions I’m sure everyone has a stunning local image that is crying out to grace the society calendar.

If you have any suggestions on the production or marketing of the calendar please let me know.

Colin Dudley
