  (Taken in 1999)

I met Ron in 1959 and we very soon became inseparable friends, we shared a number of interests like photography, motorcycling, music, fell walking, we were in the same line of work (Printing) and much more, our respective wives (then girlfriends) worked together in the same shop (Rippons Sports and Toys). Both Ron and I joined the photographic society in the 60’s and Ron was soon showing his talent as a photographer winning the preliminary print competitions although this was not his first success in photography as he was winning photographic competitions when he was 13 years old at a camera club at “Baker Perkins Ltd” where his father worked as a fitter.

Ron soon showed off one of his other talents, that of an artist, he drew caricatures of our members to be included in the Audio Visual slide shows that Ron, Bob Cuthbert and myself worked on which entertained our members at the society. Ron had success with his photographs in the NCPF having a number accepted for the portfolios during the 70’s he also won the Grier Trophy for best Non-conventional print also in the 70’s.

Ron decided to leave the society and concentrate on his art for which he was as good as any artist I had ever encountered but although very successful did not take the step to make his living from this extraordinary talent, his work can be seen throughout Europe and perhaps even further. Sadly Ron died at the young age of 57 years in 2001 following an operation to repair an aneurism. He is greatly missed by his Wife Lyn and his 2 Sons along with his family and many friends. Sadly Ron died before his grandchildren were born.
