My First Camera was some sort of ‘Toy Camera’ in the early 60’s and then a proper camera a few years later a ‘Box Brownie’. My favourite film at the time was Ilford FP3 and I was shocked when in the sixty’s there was a shortage of this film because ILFORD was replacing   and renovating some of their coating machines. I also used Kodak 126 Cameras for family snaps so it took a long time to save and get a real Camera.

It was in 1972 when I left School and saved up for a SLR a Zenith B with a 58mm f2.8 Helios Lens at a hefty cost of £29.99. A couple of years later and I had to replace this so I bought a Zenith E Body for the same cost as the Zenith B. I used Kodak Print Film and For Slides I mostly used Agfa CT21. After using this for a while I realised that this Camera was no good so I looked around and I bought a Fujica ST605n Which used a bayonet fitting for the lens and saved time changing lens because I was getting fed up of screwing and un-screwing the lens of the Zenith. At this point I started to use Fuji Print Film exclusively for Prints and Agfa CT21 for Slides.

In 1978 electronics started to appear in Cameras and Pro’s started to use them and I looked at this particular Camera and thought I wouldn’t mind getting that Camera but at a price of £350.00 it was too much. The Camera in Question is of cause the Canon A-1. The Canon A-1 was out of my reach so I decided to keep the lens and the accessories that I had accumulated so I bought a Fujica AZ-1 which was Fuji equivalent of the Canon A-1.

It was nearly two years later when the price came down for the A-1 that I purchased the Canon and sold all my Fujica stuff and now I have more then one Canon Camera. I then started to use Ilford FP4 and Pan F and also Kodak Tri-X films again. My favourite developer was May & Bakers Promicrol which was a high acutance fine grain developer which you had to dilute a lot so you had to give it a long development time but gave superb results. I also used Ilford ID-11 and for the Kodak Films I used HC110 and for Technical Pan I used Technidol. My Favourite Photographic Paper was Ilford Multigrade, Agfa Record Rapid  and Oriental Seagull, All Developed in Kodak Dektol.

I have also used a medium format camera, a Mamiya 645 Super with both Fuji Print and Slide Films with Kodak Films the same as with the 35mm with a few exceptions (Konica Infra Red Film) and also I also used a compact Digital Camera a Fuji. My Photographic Subjects varies but I like Candid, Portraits, Landscapes, Some Artistic Shots and any thing that takes my fancy at the time. With the advent of the Digital Camera you can take your Photographs quickly and easily and correct or alter your images at will so some Montage’s are now a reality for your Photography which I also like Doing.

In 2005 I desided to go all digital and put all of my equipment in part exchange and got  a Canon 350D with a couple of   lenses.

The Main Thing To Remember Is To Enjoy Your Photography  and have Fun.
